Where to find BRACED at COP 22

A year after leaving Paris with a milestone climate agreement, the UNFCCC is about to meet again –in Marrakesh, Morocco, on 7-18 November. Here is a list of where to find BRACED at the COP:

*Development & Climate Days

Where: Kenzi Club Agdal Medina Hotel

When: Saturday 12th November – Sunday 13th November

The 14th annual D&C Days focuses on the theme Global ambition, Local action. Climate resilience for all and will explore routes to climate justice through low-carbon, climate-resilient economies. Sessions will ask how communities, government, civil society and development partners can promote accountable decision-making, and how climate finance can reach the most vulnerable. It will look at how new approaches to social policy, finance, and ecosystem management can deliver resilient adaptation and social protection for a just approach to tackling climate risk.

*Innovation Forum by Global Gender and Climate Alliance

Where: Faculté des Sciences Juridiques, Economiques et Sociales, Université Cadi Ayyad, Marrakech

When: Saturday 12th November – Sunday 13th November

*Tailoring and targeting adaptation programming

Where: EU Pavillon (Blue zone – UNFCCC accreditation needed)

When: Monday 14th November, 9-10.15 am

How can we tailor programmes to best foster climate adaptation and resilience? This event will share examples on designing adaptation programmes that contribute to building climate resilience for the most vulnerable. With evidence from the community, national and international level, panellists will share practical tools and methods for prioritising adaptation and resilience efforts in programme design.

*Gender equality and climate policy

Where: Morocco Pavilion (Green zone)

When: Monday 14th November, 1-2.30 pm

This event will be a global exchange of approaches to gender and social inclusion in national climate policy, focusing on processes and outcomes, to generate a better understanding of what policies, institutions, incentives and accountabilities need to be in place to ensure success in implementing the Paris Agreement.

*Tailoring pro-poor financial services for adaptation and resilience

Where: Morocco Pavilion (Green zone)

When: Tuesday 15 November, 5-6.30 pm

How can financial services provision and private sector engagement build resilience to climate extremes and disasters? This event will explore methods that foster resilience of national economies, businesses and households across contexts and scales. Panellists will discuss how financial services can contribute to resilience, highlighting the importance of tailoring these services to the needs of the most vulnerable.

*Gender in climate policy: Translating global mandates into national policy and action

Where: Global Landscape Forum, Kenzi Club Agdal Medina, Marrakesh:

When: Wednesday 16th November, 4-5.30 pm

This discussion will bring together policy makers, researchers, practitioners and advocates to share experiences of mainstreaming gender in national climate policies and actions. Focusing on both processes and results, the goal is to identify challenges and opportunities to gender mainstreaming posed by various contextual factors; highlight successful strategies adopted by various stakeholders; and to build a consensus around the minimum standards/guidelines for designing and implementing gender responsive national climate change policies.

*Devolving global climate finance to reach the most vulnerable

Where: Mediterranean Room

When: Wednesday 16th November, 4-5.30 pm

The International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) will showcase how devolved climate finance can achieve large global benefits. An opening presentation will be given by the Chair of the Least Developed Countries Group, followed by a panel with Pete Betts (Director of International Climate Change at Department of Energy and Climate Change), Tosi Mpanu-Mpanu of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Dr. Lucy Ssendi (Tanzania President’s Office for Regional and Local Government), Elhadj as Sy (Secretary General of International Federation of the Red Cross Red Crescent Societies).
